Subject	Installing valve stem seals?

Message	I will be installing new Z1 viton valve stem seals. I was wondering if there's supposed to be a slight gap between the bottom of the valve stem seal and the seat where rests against. My "machinist" (I use that term lightly after this project) has installed TWO sets of stem seals. The first was a set of the Z1 viton brand and the second was some generic brand. The heads were no where near clean so I took them back to him for a second cleaning. He pulled out the Z1 (there goes 35 bux) seals before cleaning the heads and then installed some napa brand seals after he was done. The problem is that I found 18/24 valve stem seals were NOT completely flush against the surface. He left a slight gap and I am wondering if that was on purpose for some crazy reason? The second set he installed were just as bad... :( Clean? I think NOT!!!!!
